Dave Walker

FURTHER UPDATE 29-Jan-2021

This message comes from our Chairman, Gary Heather -

"In discussing the matter with David Lown, we both agree that wearing of club colours may not be prudent. It's most unfortunate that we have to suggest this, but with these very unusual times we have to act sensibly.

The route from Northney Road and in to Havant offers lots of opportunity to pay your respects and also maintain social distance.

Thank you."

UPDATE 20-Jan-2021

Dave Walker’s funeral will be held on Saturday 30th January.

The funeral procession will be passing the Langstone Hotel, Hayling, for the final time between 1045 and 1100.

Given the availability of parking and space at this location, it would be wonderful to see club members and friends wave him goodbye, complying with Covid-19 restrictions of course.

Wearing VAC hoodies, T-shirts and/or VAC jackets would be a great way for the club to send him off.

Additionally, Dave Lown is going to start raising money towards installing a bench on the Green in Rowlands Castle in Dave Walker's memory. He ran from there on Sundays for many years, loving the hills and finishing in the cafe with friends.

If you would like to donate towards this, please let Dave Lown know, thank you.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the passing of my friend and running buddy of many years, Dave Walker.

A member of Victory AC since the start of 1990, Dave will be sorely missed by many of the members who saw him as a great asset in the relays (Test Way, Royal Mail and the South Downs), which we did in the earlier years of our running lives together.

He was a popular runner in the club on training nights, with his non-stop chat and banter. He also was a regular attendee at the Sunday Rowlands Castle runs and cafe.

He was also very generous and gave me a big hand arranging The Billy 5 and Hayling Relay that raised money for local charities.

I’m sure you will agree, he will be sadly missed by all of the members of Victory AC.

Our thoughts are with his family Charlie and Hannah and grandchildren.

Such sad news about Dave. I remember when he was invited by John G to come along with Susie to one of our presentation evenings at the Bear Hotel in the late 80s. I was Secretary at the time and I was pleased that the gathering helped persuade Dave to join our club, although I'm sure that John had already convinced him to join us.

A great club member and one of the good guys.

He will indeed be missed.

Ed
