Club Update

Hello everyone.  I am writing to you in response to the enquiries we have received about the club resuming weekly training sessions.

We fully appreciate that the club offers a safe environment for running and provides great camaraderie in both a training and social sense.   For those lucky enough to be able to meet up in small groups, this is filling a gap but not everyone can manage this.

England Athletics have released further guidelines this week regarding club activity and, frustratingly, the advice has not moved forward enough for the club to re-start training as per pre Covid-19 conditions.  In essence, the advice is still:

  • For all athletics and running activities, England Athletics advises that people should continue to adhere to the 2m guidance where at all possible.
  • England Athletics advises that people should continue to train and exercise in groups of up to 6 people, adhering to social distancing.
  • The club will still be required to have a Covid-19 Coordinator (preferably with experience in health & safety in a professional/volunteer setting) with a list of responsibilities, including ensuring that all volunteers, coaches/leaders and athletes adhere to the guidance and ensuring that all necessary levels of risk mitigation are in place prior to training

I am sure that many of you will understand that a club the size of Victory AC quite simply does not have the capacity to safely run multiple groups of 1+5 every Tuesday / Thursday, within the current guidelines.

But, what is the club doing?

  • Every week, a coach is publishing a different training session, either speed or strength based, in order to offer the opportunity of doing something different from just ‘going for a run’.  If you can meet up with another runner to do these, it can enhance your motivation to push yourself in these sessions if you wish!
  • The ‘social distancing’ summer handicap race continues to take place each month.
  • The Virtual Hayling Charity Marathon Relay will be taking place 10-16th August.

If you are taking part in the summer handicap series or Hayling relay, just a gentle reminder that you do need to renew your club membership.

We will obviously keep you up to date with any changes in the circumstances.  As soon as we can we will get back together properly, ensuring we do so safely.

In the meantime, please check FB for any callouts from anyone who wishes to get together for a socially distanced run or training.  Thank you to Michelle Jones who has already done this for some hill sessions.  Take care and stay safe.
