A message from our new Chairman

All Change.

I wanted to put a post together, but when deciding where to start there was only one obvious choice.

It may have escaped some of you, but Beth Pirie has now stepped down as chair of the club. I couldn't let this go without giving a much deserved mention. Having been in the role for 3 years, could you please raise a glass to Beth's fantastic stewardship? The role has it's ups and downs at the best of times, but these last 9 months or so have been particularly bizarre.

Following in Beth's footsteps will be a challenge, but with strong support behind me, I will do my best. When the role came up I kept my hands firmly in my pockets, Not for me, sir. However I wasn't aware that Bridget has a black belt in 'passing the baton' from one person to the next. When my back was turned, she slipped it under my arm, and quickly shot off. Clearly all the running has paid off. Thanks Bridget.

I thought it was prudent to also mention that the Committee will forever continue to support you as best as we can. Thank you to everyone on the committee for agreeing to serve for another year. We also welcome back Belinda Harding, thank you for wanting to join us again.

Raman Sangha is hanging up her committee pen and reverting to just running. Thank you for the time you gave us, Raman.

We also have an amazing coaching team. This is not easy setting out the running programme for each season, and looking for new ideas to keep it fresh. Coupled with running each session and keeping us safe, a huge thank you goes out to them. It's a sad time for me with Peter Harding stepping down as a Coach. Maybe we can get another 4 or 5 years out of him? You have been an amazing asset to us all.

We also have a few new roles, as we have to cope with the changing landscape we find ourselves in. This has resulted in the following positions and officers:  Welfare Officers - thank you to Belinda Harding and Graham Foden. Covid Officers - thank you to Rachel Burton and Helen Boiling. This will entail a level of training / research, so it's nice of them to put their names forward.

The ongoing support by Jan MacDonald regarding the membership is, I am sure, valued by us all.  Mary Short supporting us too, behind the scenes. Hayling Billy organising with John Gallagher and Peter Harding has been fantastic. The race captains are also there in support, as and when these start up again.

The coaching team are constantly paying close attention to the latest government guidelines and any significant output released from England Athletics. We all want to get back to having the choice to group run, but this is a frustrating waiting game. When we can I am sure we will embrace this with open arms. Until then, continued caution with our small running bubbles is at least allowing it to tick along.

When it's allowed, it would be amazing to arrange another parkrun takeover of Havant.

We have a strong club, with many members having a wealth of experience. Lean on them, most are happy to share their wisdom.

On behalf of the committee, coaching team and the new Support Officers, I would like to extend a hand to you all. Whether you have ideas, concerns or need of support, we would do our best for you. We are all affected in a myriad of ways, PLEASE NEVER FEEL THAT YOU'RE ALONE!

Thank you everyone for being loyal to the club, we really do appreciate you all. I hope I have covered everyone proactively involved with running our great club. Sorry if I have missed anyone.

Until we meet again, please stay safe,

Gary Heather x
